Silica (Silicon dioxide)

Silica, or silicon dioxide, is most commonly recognized as sand. It does not appear to have a role in joint health but a study which followed subjects for 15 years found that higher levels of silica in water appeared to decrease the risk of dementia.1 It has also been found to lower blood pressure in rats.2
